During the past 2 weeks, Kindy City International Preschool carried out a Science project “Be A Little Civil Engineer” for the kids to experience the social facets relating to traffic, the purpose and construction methods and the usages of different types of roads, bridges and tunnels, their users and means of transport. More interestingly, the school takes this opportunity to incorporate the lessons about following traffic rules and raising awareness about road safety from a young age.
Understanding that the kids perform better when they ‘learn through play’, the school uses games to make it easier for the students to learn about transportation.

“Handmade Traffic Lights”
Kids making real objects to do with transportation, building traffic models and intersections including traffic light posts (red, amber, green) and some common transportation, etc. are activities that help the children observe and master familiar traffic signs, manage to direct the vehicles according to the rules, understand that vehicles must stop at the red light and stop and park at allowed areas.

Learning about traffic plays a vital role in the child’s cognitive development: the kids will not only gain basic knowledge about how to choose the appropriate means of transport but also step by step develop their consciousness on proper traffic behaviors and respect the traffic rules from an early age.
