Music is an integral part of our lives. Music is not only a “language” which connects to and represents various emotions in our lives, but is also very important in helping children to mature.
Music can help children develop and strengthen their social skills. Maestro Eduardo Maruret, a conductor, musician and music director has observed the effect of music on children’s social skills. He believes that in our society “when people participate in a music band they will learn important life skills such as how to communicate with others, how to work in a team as well as respecting and appreciating their ability as well as others. It also helps to develop leadership skills and discipline.”
Children are often very curious and imaginative. Some children have an emotional reaction to music, such as feeling happy and some absorb music very quickly while others take slightly longer for the effect of the music to take hold. As well as allowing the children to express themselves and be creative, playing a musical instrument and reading music theory are skills that will be very useful for children in later life.
In mid-January 2016, Kindy City Intenrtaional Preschool will introduce the topic of “Music making” which will incorporate activities such as making musical instruments and creating music themselves. The goal will be to educate the children through softly integrated music lessons to enrich language development, vocabulary and critical thinking.
